THIS IS JUST ONE IN A SERIES OF VENDOR SPOTLIGHTS WHERE WE LET THOSE WHO WILL BE SHARING THEIR WARES SHINE A LIGHT ON WHAT IT IS THEY DO! WE ASKED DAENA FROM REGEEKED TO INDULGE US BY ANSWERING A FEW QUESTIONS.
HERE'S WHAT SHE HAD TO SAY:
1). What's your name, where are you from and what is it that you make?
I am Daena Urbanski and I hail from Akron’s northern neighbor, Cuyahoga Falls. I am the hands behind ReGeeked, a line of wallets and accessories hand crafted with recycled comic book pages.
2). How did you acquire the unique skill set to do what it is you do?
Growing up, I was in love with fashion design and the idea that I could make and design my own clothes however I wanted. I quickly learned I did not have the patience to finish even half the overly ambitious patterns I had started and continued to admire designing from afar, though I still tried to incorporate fashion into every high school art assignment I could. Fast forward to 2011, I was looking for a comic book wallet for myself (Batman, of course). At the time, no one had exactly what I wanted with the quality I desired. Thinking I should give up the search, a little lightbulb went off as I drove past the local comic book store. Turns out I have just the right amount of patience for making my own wallet patterns and I have been using comic books as my fabric of choice ever since.
3). What is your best seller?
This all varies throughout the year depending on what TV show is in season or which upcoming superhero movie just dropped a new trailer, but no matter what I do, I can never seem to keep Batman in stock.
4). How long have you been vending? Have you done a Crafty Mart show before?
It took me almost two years after I started making wallets to work up the courage to set up a table anywhere. My first show was the Cleveland Craft Coalition holiday show in 2012 and I couldn’t have asked for a friendlier first experience! Since then I have enjoyed participating in many craft shows and comic conventions all over Northeast Ohio. My first Crafty Mart show was the 2015 holiday show and I am very excited to be participating in The Mom & Pop Shoppe for the first time this year.
5). The Beatles or The Rolling Stones?
