THIS IS JUST ONE IN A SERIES OF VENDOR SPOTLIGHTS WHERE WE LET THOSE WHO WILL BE SHARING THEIR WARES SHINE A LIGHT ON WHAT IT IS THEY DO! WE ASKED MARYSSA FROM MARYSSA MOCZAN STUDIOS TO INDULGE US BY ANSWERING A FEW QUESTIONS.
HERE'S WHAT SHE HAD TO SAY:
1). What's your name, where are you from and what is it that you make?
My name is Maryssa Moczan. I'm a Pittsburgh native living in Tallmadge, Ohio. I make mainly wheel thrown functional pottery out of a cone 6 white stoneware. I've slowly become known for my Ohio mugs, but also love making mugs, bowls, and platters with textures.
2). How did you acquire the unique skill set to do what it is you do?
I have always been artistic and have picked up plenty of art and craft skills over the years from printmaking to knitting to painting. I began college at Youngstown State University as a painting major, but fell in love with clay after taking my first class with Mike Moseley in 2009. I kept taking classes and eventually got a studio space at the Ward Bakery Building in Youngstown in 2015, where I continue to learn, experiment, and perfect my craft.
3). What is your best seller?
My best selling is my night sky Ohio mug. Next to these, my hanging planters are always really popular.
4). How long have you been vending? Have you done a Crafty Mart show before?
I did a few craft shows off and on through college with the artists of the rust belt, but started doing them more regularly about two-three years ago. I have done several pop up crafty mart shows, as well as the 2016 Mom and Pop Shoppe and holiday show.
5). The Beatles or The Rolling Stones?
The Beatles is the only correct answer!
