We're gearing up for our next event--happening in less than two weeks. Crafty Mart is coming to Thirsty Dog Brewing Company for a pop up market on Saturday, May 23rd, 11am-5pm. Please let me introduce you to one of our makers coming to the event. This profile is one in a series of Vendor Spotlights where we let those who will be sharing their wares shine a light on what it is they do. The following profile is Jerad from The Chippy Beaver and his responses to a mini-questionnaire.
1). What's your name and what is it that you make?
My name is Jerad VanRhoden and I am the proprietor of The Chippy Beaver. I make a variety of things, mostly from wood, anything from banks and picture frames to planters and furniture. I prefer to use reclaimed or upcycled materials when possible, but generally I use a mix of materials so you never know what I will be making next.
2). How did you acquire the unique skill set to do what it is you do?
Well, it all started because I needed an odd sized picture frame for an old poster I acquired, I priced custom frames at the stores and was shocked by how expensive they were, so I thought why not give it a shot myself. So, I did and ended up making several pictures frames for myself and for friends and it turned into what I do now. I’m also never afraid to venture into trying to make something new. I am always looking for a new challenge to see how far I can push my skills.
3). What is your best seller?
Currently, my best sellers are banks made from old post office box doors. They are a pretty cool item to have on the shelf, a great part of history. Over the holidays though, the most popular selling thing was the Ohio shaped ornaments.
4). How long have you been vending? Have you done a Crafty Mart show before?
I have been vending for about 2 years now, mainly at a few local craft shows, but I have been pretty active on Etsy the last year or so. Unfortunately, I have never been able to do a Crafty Mart before so I am very excited for my first one at Thirsty Dog.
5). The Beatles or the Rolling Stones?
Definitely The Beatles (Let It Be)
