Please let us at Crafty Mart introduce you to another one of our artisans coming to The Mom & Pop Shoppe on Saturday, April 25th. This series of Vendor Spotlights is a feature in which we let those who will be sharing their wares shine a light on what it is they do. The following profile is Tessa from Neighbors Apparel and her response to a mini-questionnaire.
1) What's your name and what is it that you make?
We're Neighbors Apparel and we employ refugee women living in Akron to make fashionable things -- t-shirts, bags, scarves & more.
2) How did you acquire the unique skill set to do what it is you do?
Most of the refugee women on our team acquired their sewing talent from growing up and working as seamstresses in refugee camps in their home country, such as Burma or Nepal.
3) What is your best seller?
The Ohio Tee! This tee is a suuuuper soft tri-blend t-shirt that features an Ohio-shaped patch (or whichever state you fancy) that is cut from authentic fabric handwoven in our refugees' home country. This tee really tells our story the best, as it blends the American style tee with a piece of our refugees' culture.

4) How long have you been vending? Have you done the Mom & Pop Shoppe before?
We just launched in July of 2014, so we've only been in business for about 9 months. This is our first Crafty Mart appearance ever, and we're stoked!
5) The Beatles or the Rolling Stones?
The Rolling Stones.
Many, many thanks to Tessa for answering our questions and coming to Crafty Mart's Mom & Pop Shoppe. We'll see everyone on Saturday, April 25th, from 10am-5pm at Musica, Akron Art Museum, and Summit Artspace. You'll be able to locate Neighbors Apparel at Summit Artspace.
