We're excited to bring you another in a series of profiles to introduce you to a few of our artisans coming to the 7th Annual Crafty Mart Holiday Show on Saturday and Sunday, November 28th-29th. This is just one in a series of Vendor Spotlights where we let those who will be sharing their wares shine a light on what it is they do. The following profile is Ape from Ape Made and her response to a mini-questionnaire.
1). What's your name and what is it that you make?
April Bleakney (Ape). I make a wide variety of screen printed clothing and products (all hand printed!).
2). How did you acquire the unique skill set to do what it is you do?
I went to Kent State and earned my BFA in Fine Arts with a concentration in Printmaking. My BFA thesis was completed using screen printing.
3). What is your best seller?
Hard to say, we have such a wide variety of APE MADE products! Tees and baseball tees are very popular. Coasters, neckties, baby onesies, and tank tops are as well. As far as Akron goes, the 'Akron Blimp’ design is definitely the all time crowd favorite.
4). How long have you been vending? Have you done a Crafty Mart show before?
I’ve been officially (aka full time) vending for 4 1/2 years (2011). I believe my first show was in 2008 or 2009. I’ve sold at Crafty Mart since 2011 or 2012.
5). Coffee or tea?
Tea! Alllllll day.
Thank you for answering our questions Ape. And, thanks for coming to the 7th Annual Crafty Mart Holiday Show. We'll see everyone on Sat. & Sun. Nov. 28th-29th at Musica, Akron Art Museum, and Summit Artspace. You'll be able to find Ape Made at the Akron Art Museum.
